Rugby football club "IRON FORTRESS Rufc" was founded in Smederevo 13.12.2008 year. Club establishment preceded the organization of two international rugby matches, Serbian national team in qualifying for World Cup 2011 in our city. The first was played on 13.09.2008 against Armenia, and another 06.12.2008. Both games were played at the stadium of FC Smederevo.
The greatest credit for organizing this two games in Smederevo was Mr. Phil Drake, who gathered around him a group of young people with whom he founded the club. With the help of Rugby Union of Serbia, organized the successful popularization of rugby sports action by primary and secondary schools, so that the club only a month since the foundation took part in the Winter League in 2009 in competition with the pioneers and females.
Already in the spring of 2009 with the selection of the pioneers and females, formed the senior team. Played a couple of unofficial training match, the first in Pancevo, a multiple champion against Dinamo. Agile management led by Mr. Phil Drake, quickly created a sound working conditions and decided that from September of 2009 senior team participates in the Championship of Serbia.
In preparation for next season during the summer in Smederevo have landed two English coaches from Winchester, who worked with ekipm two weeks. At the end of the mini-preparation played the first official match against the junior national team of Serbia. This match was played in the Karatas 07/19/2009. Although "Iron" lost the game with 47:17 (37:0) was evident the enormous progress the young team. Milos Joksimovic in this game he scored the first points for Smederevci. Popular Sarma has scored the first essay and then convert and so secure a place in club history.
